JOB GOAL:
To carry out the aims and objectives of the sport program as outlined by the Athletic Director and Varsity Head Coach. To instruct all athletes in individual and team fundamentals, strategy, and physical training necessary for them to realize a degree of individual and team success.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Has a thorough knowledge of the athletic policy that has been approved by the M.P.A., School Board, and Athletic Department and is responsible for its implementation by the entire sub-varsity staff;
2. Has knowledge of league policy and implements the same consistently, as well as interpreting accurately to sub-varsity staff;
3. Understands the proper administrative line of command and refers all requests of grievances through proper channels;
4. Is aware of and attends all public / staff / league / state / departmental meetings that require attendance.
STAFF RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Maintains discipline, adjusts grievances, and works to create morale and cooperation among all staff members;
2. Performs such other duties which may be assigned by the Athletic Director/building Principal;
3. Never criticizes, admonishes, or argues with any staff member within ears or eyes of players or parents;
4. Attends other program contests, whenever possible, for program observation and assists in coach evaluation.
ADMINISTRATIVE RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Assists Athletic Director in the scheduling of contests, acquiring officials, securing transportation, when necessary;
2. Submits in a timely fashion any information required by the Maine Principals Association, Mid-Maine Conference, or Hall-Dale Athletic Department;
3. Assists in the necessary preparation to hold scheduled events or practices and adheres to scheduled facility times. Coordinates program with maintenance and other school employees;
4. Provides documentation to fulfill state and district requirements concerning physical examinations, parental consent, and eligibility;
5. Provides proper safeguards for maintenance and protection of assigned equipment, regularly inspects facility to ensure safety for athletes, and informs Athletic Director of any unsafe conditions;
6. Advises and recommends changes for any policy, method, or procedure to Athletic Director;
7. Establishes lettering criteria or gives input into modifying established criteria for lettering or receiving other awards. Prepares and submits to Athletic Director all athletes who are eligible for awards, in advance, of any award function;
8. Attends all school-sponsored awards functions organized by the school or Boosters Club that is organized for the purpose of recognizing Hall-Dale athletes;
9. Reports immediately to the Athletic Director regarding any severe discipline problem involving any athletes or coaches associated with our programs;
10. Submits all conference contest evaluations to the Athletic Director on time;
11. Assists students in meeting and enforces all eligibility standards;
12. Submits an accurate “end of the year” report which includes roster, record, budget, coaching intent, inventory, and recommendations to the Athletic Director immediately following the end of the season;
13. Always carries emergency cards and the district emergency medical procedure while at practices and games;
14. Maintains proper supervision of all athletes at all times during practices and games.
STUDENT RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Provides training rules, team discipline policy, lettering policy, and any other unique regulations of the sport to teach athlete, and parent of athlete, who is considered a participant;
2. Gives constant attention to athletes’ grades and conduct;
3. By his/her presence at all practices, games, and while traveling, provides assistance, guidance, and safeguards for each participant;
4. Initiates programs and policies in conjunction with the Athletic Trainer concerning injuries, medical attention, and emergencies;
5. Completes paperwork on all disabling athletic injuries on proper forms and submits to the Athletic Director, Athletic Trainer, and Building Principal within 24 hours;
6. Provides proper direction and guidance to all student managers, assistants, and statisticians;
7. Determines discipline, delineates procedures concerning “due process” when the enforcement of discipline is necessary and contacts parents when a student is suspended or dropped from the team;
8. Provides assistance to athletes in their college or advanced educational selection.
FINANCES AND EQUIPMENT CONTROL:
1. Participates in the budgeting function with the Athletic Director by establishing priorities for the next season. Recommends equipment and supplies guidelines by providing information regarding type, style, color, and technical specifications. Is responsible for operating within budget guidelines / restrictions;
2. Is accountable for all equipment, supplies, and uniforms being returned and stored properly immediately following the end of the season. Must report immediately to the Athletic Director any athlete that has not turned in equipment or uniforms and must continue to pursue collection of such until successful;
3. Must assist field maintenance / groundskeeper in setting up and taking down all athletic equipment associated with the sport;
4. Properly marks and identifies all equipment before using;
5. Monitors equipment storage areas and coaches’ office and authorizes who may enter. Never allows building key to be taken by a student;
6. Examines locker rooms before and after practices and games, checking on general cleanliness of the facility. Responsible for the cleanliness and maintenance of sport specific equipment;
7. Does not allow athletes to move through building before or after practice with cleats on. Responsible for the cleaning of any building area soiled by athletes not following this facility courtesy;
8. Secures all doors, windows and locks, as well as turning all lights off before leaving building;
9. Instills in each player a respect for equipment and school property, along with its care and proper use.
PUBLIC RELATIONS:
1. Organizes parents, coaches, players, and guests for pre-season meetings;
2. Promotes individual sport within school by using bulletin boards, announcements, and providing handout information;
3. Meets with athletes at least once prior to beginning of season to distribute any necessary information;
4. Responsible for the quality, effectiveness and validity of any oral or written release to local media;
5. Responsible for maintaining good public relations with the news media, Boosters Club, parents; officials, volunteers, fans, other coaching staff, and school personnel;
6. Always presents information to the press regarding beginning practices [specifically for fall sports] and results of all contests in a timely fashion;
7. Performs other duties as assigned by the Athletic Director.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Athletic season, with stipend determined by negotiated agreement
EVALUATION:
The performance of this position will be evaluated seasonally by assigned immediate supervisor(s).
1. Previous experience in assigned sport is desirable;
2. Has knowledge and background in assigned sport;
3. Is an American Coaching Effectiveness Program [A.C.E.P] certified coach or is committed to completing course when offered;
4. Employment as a teacher in M.S.A.D. #16 is desirable, but not a pre-requisite.

5. American Coaching Effectiveness Program [A.C.E.P.] certification or committed to certification when course made available at own cost.
