Hey all, which reports are you using for progress reports or are you writing your own?

I came up with essentially three options using the interface under Grading & Standards > Reports

1: Grades Report:
Pro: Organized by course
Pro: shows comments for each course and standard including the fake “Course Comments” standard
Pro: shows teacher for each course
Con: Can’t show the rubric used
Con: can’t print attendance
Con: Does not show standard description

2: Report Card:
Set up using the “Standards” options
Pro: shows rubric
Pro: shows attendance
Con: Only shows “Course Comments” fake standard once, not for each course ie standards only show once, even if they are evaluated by more than one teacher. Not sure how it determines which teachers’ assessment is more important.
Con: Shows standards by group, not by course
Con: Does not show course teachers
Con: Does not show standard description

3: Report Card:
Set up using “Conventional” options
Pro: Shows attendance
Pro: Show Rubric
Pro: Organized by course
Pro: Shows standard name
Pro: Shows comments
Con: Where’s the “Course Comments” fake standard?
Con: Does not show standard description

I’m liking 3 best at this point, but I need to find out why my fake standard “Course Comments” is not printing on that one but is on both of the other options. The Course Comments standard is there because the administration wants them to add comments on the course, not necessarily on each and every standard. So for some of the options above the tag “Course Comments” prints just to the left of the comment the teacher entered. Hokey but it might work.

And none of them give the option to show the standards description language. I never see that anywhere.

Any best practices out there?

Hey all, how are you guys actually entering standards grades to a progress report “task” on your schools that just do standards?

We can’t add a “grading task” to post to as grading tasks only allow you to select score groups, not rubrics.

So… we have three trimesters. I can put a score from the rubric in three ways: “Grading by Task”, “Grading by Student” or in the green column in the grade book. But all three are for the trimester score NOT for the progress report.

At this point I’m going to tell the teachers to put the score in there. Then I’ll print the progress reports, then tell them to use the Fill to blank out the scores. Then close the grading window.

Other suggestions? You wouldn’t believe what an IC trainer told me to do. Not an option.

Thanks.

I’ve been looking at a lot of sample sites to attempt to determine the best way to set up grading tasks, score groups, etc, and have not seen two set up the same way. Each trainer I talk to tells me something different also. I’m probably making this more difficult than it is, but I want to set things up right if I can…

So. When you set up the grading tasks, what’s your hierarchy look like? Did you start with:

0809 high school
T1 eligability
T1 Mid
T1 Final

etc.

or did you just do the midterm, finalterm, etc. and then final year grade?

For elementary schools I have also seen cases where the standards are put in as grading tasks for each grade level. Did anyone do this? or is that necessary?

We (Biddeford) are using a server hosted by IC and, as more users get into the system, we are seeing lots of errors pop up. There is presently one error that I have some knowledge of that seems to be Java related because it is encountered primarily when using the gradebook:

“An unexpected exception occurred. This program will attempt to continue to operate, but there is a chance that the operation you just performed failed to complete. It is advised that you save your work. If you feel this is a programming glitch, contact Infinite Campus and they will instruct you on how to email your gradebook log file to them.”

I don’t know for a fact that this is related to Java, but it seems to pop up only when using the gradebook. It also seems to be generated by the Campus server rather than the OS since it is written by campus.

Another error we see is:

“Secure Connection Failed
An error occurred during a connection to sandbox.epm.infinitecampus.org.
Peer received a valid certificate, but access was denied.
(Error code: ssl_error_access_denied_alert)
The page you are trying to view can not be shown because the authenticity of the received data could not be verified.
* Please contact the web site owners to inform them of this problem.”

Again, this is not strictly a Java error, but it seems to happen most often when using the gradebook and, disturbingly, seems to result in loss of work after teachers have entered grades. The best I can tell them right now is to save as they go.

The final error is very common and doesn’t seem to result in lost data or have any relation to Java. It is:

“Error establishing an encrypted connection to maine.infinitecampus.org. Error Code: -12194.”

and seems to be a generic Windows Alert. I am guessing that it is a local OS/Firewall/Network problem although campus suggested that it could be some sort of latency setting on the server.

I am listing the error messages in hopes that others have seen the same and can provide other insights.

Can we see an interface or portal like one the teacher’s would see?
Im not sure what this question is asking. The teacher uses the campus application. In training you saw exactly what a teacher would see. I’m not sure if I answered this question??? Feel free to restate it and then maybe I will get it

Edline is very easy and has allowed me to post lots of interesting web assignments for us to work on as a class or for kids to access as homework. Lesson planner includes space for description, objectives, adn refereences. Web links can also be placed on each one.
If you want students to be able to work on assignments at home then you will have to make sure that you fill out the description, objectives and references. They will then see that on their calendar. Parents/guardians will also be able to view this information and in turn they will be able to help thier child out in the event that they can not move forward with the assignment.

I would also like to have a chance to work on my own pages or classes so I can practice and have something to show as an example.
If you didnt get a chance to write down the training site address and username let me know and I can get you a site to use as practice.

Good afternoon everyone (Hey Hall-Dale, I miss you!)

On our old SIS we used a massive line-feed printer dedicated only to printing SIS reports. With Campus we are pleased to be able to print reports out to any printer.

A question has come up about the cost of printing everything to a laserjet: namely isn’t this going to get expensive very fast?

So, we are wondering if people have considered using networked photo copiers for the big reports (start of school schedules, report cards etc). What are the upsides and downsides of each?

  Thanks - Andy
