Physics class wins solar building challenge

imageHall-Dale received a grant to participate in the the SciTec project’s solar building challenge.  The terms of the challenge called for students to design and build a 4 foot by 8 foot structure that could be transported to the Capitol Area Technical Center.  A maximum budget of $500 was allowed.  Entries were sealed for 24 hours and left in the sun.  They were then monitored and judged based on two criteria - Solar Gain (how much the temperature increased during the day) and Heat Retention - (how little the temperature dropped during the night).  Hall-Dale’s entry was designed primarily for Solar Gain, which category it won easily, reaching a temperature of 254 Degrees F - a gain of nearly 200 degrees and hot enough to boil water.  The challenge was undertaken by the Period H Physics First class and spearheaded by 9th grader Samantha Lewis.image

Just “Wolfram” it.

A new verb was born today, “Wolfram”. Just as we are used to saying “Just Google it, I expect that the use of Wolfram Alpha will become ubiquitous.

How to unenrole from old Moodle classes…

Are you getting a bunch of annoying emails from a Moodle course you participated in last year?
You can simply ‘unenrole’ from the class.
1) Login to Moodle
2) Click on your username in the upper-right corner of the screen (next to the logout button)
3) You will then see your profile including the courses you are enrolled in. Select the course you wish to un-enroll from.
4) Then select the button which says “Unenrol me from ...”

Hall-Dale Reads

imageHall-Dale K-12 libraries are kicking off a literacy campaign called Hall-Dale Reads!  To help buy recreational reading materials that encourage students to read for fun, we’re going out into the community to ask for corporate sponsors.  In return for a donation, we’ll put your company’s name on our web site and on a special bookplate in every book we buy with your donation.  Over the life of a book, this will result in a lot of advertising!  If you work for a company that you think would sponsor us, please contact .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address) at 622-6211 ext. 301.  Thank you for investing in our children and our community!  Our logo was designed by senior Billy W.
