Date Beginning: Monday November 2, 2009-End of School Year
Time Held: 8:05-8:15
Location: Hall-Dale Elementary School Gymnasium
Description:
Students will be given the opportunity to participate in a walking / running program each morning. Research has shown that there are numerous health benefits associated with regular physical activity. The same research shows that many children do not get adequate amounts of physical activity. NASPE (the National Association of Sport and Physical Education) recommends that elementary aged students receive 150 minutes of physical education each week. Since current levels of P.E. are 60 minutes for grades K-2 and 45 minutes for grades 3-5, this will be an opportunity for students to receive 50 more minutes of physical activity each week.
Students will be expected to wear sneakers, walk or run the entire activity time, and follow all established physical education rules. Incentives will be provided based on attendance/participation for the first two weeks as a performance based reward system is established. If your student is interested in participating, please sign and return this sheet to the main office. Please contact Mr. Viselli (P.E. teacher) with questions or if you would like to help with this program.
