Dear Fellow Students
Hello, I am Dylan Sirois, Student School Board Representative. I have only within the last year really gotten involved with School Politics. I began as a concerned and interested student in the end of 10th grade sitting in on various areas of school leadership. I met with the Student Senate first, a very disorganized unmotivated body of elected representatives. Then with the Leadership Team a very motivated committee consisting of students, teachers, the guidance counselor, and the Principal. This group was very well run but was in no way connected with the Student Senate. Then my history teacher informed me that the School Board opened a position for a student representative. I won the school wide election and was made Student Representative to the School Board MSAD 16.
Now elected into a branch of student government I began to reconstruct the Senate, from the end of the year through the summer I worked on a Student Senate Charter at the beginning of this year the senate was elected and accepted my charter, although there have been changes made to it. With the new Senate I had taken the position of Senate Facilitator as well as School Board Representative. I have learned to work with people and my leadership has encouraged a new feeling in the Senate, a feeling of responsibility. It has been a struggle, I have been working with the Principal, Mr. McFarland, and the Senate President Andy Estrada to make the Senate function as efficient as possible. The Senate is moving forward and is beginning to understand their responsibilities. I have begun to set down my responsibilities in the Senate as a Senate Facilitator should not be necessary for much longer, Leading members of the Senate will be running the Senate soon.
Thank You,
Dylan Sirois
