February Meeting Report 2008

February 14, 2008
Dylan Sirois
School Board Representative

To all Students,
Due to snow the School Board meeting was postponed from February 6, 2008 to February 14, 2008; although the weather was still foul on the new School Board Meeting day. Many topics were discussed throughout the meeting, including the retirements of Principal Steve MacDougall, Math teacher Dan O’ Laughlin, and Special Ed District Director Brenda Joseph. All will be greatly missed by Hall-Dale. I do not yet know who our next principal will be, there are rumors, I will announce this information when I receive it.
One of the most important topics concerning the Senior class was the moving of the graduation date to one week further in June. I made sure there was discussion on the matter as I had been hearing great contention among students. All financial concerning the school can be settled, protect graduation has been moved one week back, and any “things” already bought with the graduation date upon then will be redone. If you have any questions you can email me or talk to Mr. MacDougall.
All of the principals made a report to the School Board detailing what has been done with the Standards Based Grading System. Warning: If you heard the rumor that third trimester will be graded using standards this rumor is false. Mr. MacDougall began the reports. He handed the School Board a packet of information containing lots of information about Standards Based Grading, and detailing what has been done by the Hall-Dale Leadership Team, Student Senate, and Faculty. Any student of parent who would like to receive this packet of information may, just talk to me or email me. Mr. Lavoie also made a report on what the middle school has been doing to prepare for standards. Mr. Lavoie has held meetings with parents and had a grand total of six parents come that he collaborated and discussed standards with. Parent and Student involvement is crucial for the Standards based Grading system to be what the community wants it to be. Student Senate will be more and more involved with standards based grading, and we will begin to educate the Students. Once Students are better informed parents will be addressed. Any one who would like to work with the Student Senate on Standards Based Grading is welcome.

Respectfully Submitted,
Student School Board Rep. Dylan Sirois
