Student Senate Meeting: November 1, 2007

-Discussion and a vote of 14 to 1 led to the rule of having 2/3 majority for actions to be modified for simply majority in the senate’s decisions.

-A debate was held over the issue of absentees voting, which is the act of enabling the vote of a person who is not present at a meeting about the issue that would be voted on. A vote was taken in the senate, and this policy reamained with a vote of 13 to 3.

-There was a brief dicussion on the use of Robert’s rules of Order within the Senate’s meetings. With a vote of 15 to 2, the are taken out of the charter and no longer used. Though, as has been for pervious meetings, the use of “I motion to . .” “motion seconded” is still used.

-A discussion the took place, in which it was voted that the vice president’s duties within the senate remained the same to that of the presidents, but would tka eover in his absence. This vote passed unopposed 16 to 0.

-Then, a debate took plce over wethe rit was necessary to be a senator to run for Vice president. A vote said that this was not so, that any position could run for any othe rin-senate one. Passed 15 to 1.

-Finally, a vote was taken to elect a vice president, based on the two nominatins of Marc and Sam. Marc won this vote 9 to 8, however, in the chaosof the first vote (1 mute, people talking) a recount was taken. In this vote, Sam won 8-7, and it was decided by President to today hold final vote for this position, based on how the voting results that occured at the very end of the last meeting were inaccurate.
