How do we get our students to read books when there are so many demands on their time?  By giving them what they want to read!  Our library funds are mostly used to buy books to support classes, which is why we’ve decided to ask the Hall-Dale community to help us buy recreational reading materials that our students crave.  This is especially important for our at-risk students who are unlikely to develop an interest in reading without these materials.

In return for your sponsorship, we will:

•  Include your name on a list of sponsors below;
•  Include your name in a mailing home to all parents of the nearly 1,000 students in our district;
•  Include your name on a special bookplate that will be placed on the first page of every book we buy with your donation.  Over the life of the book, that will translate to a lot of advertising!

The Maine Student Book Award program gives Maine students the opportunity to select their favorite book of the year and voice their opinion in a statewide vote.  The mission, according to their web site, is “... to expand literary horizons of students in grades 4-8 by encouraging them to read, evaluate, and enjoy a selection of new books and to choose by written ballot, a statewide favorite.”  This award has become very prestigious in literary circles!
